Today, we’re chatting to Cheryl Fergison. Cheryl is a British actress of stage and screen, best known for her much-loved role as Heather Trott in EastEnders (2007–2012). Beyond her iconic television work, Cheryl is a passionate performer with a deep love for music. A keen singer, she regularly showcases her talent at local events and through her social media platforms.
In August 2025, Cheryl added another string to her bow with the release of her memoir, Behind the Scenes – My Secret Life Beyond EastEnders, offering fans an intimate look at her journey both on and off screen.
How did you first discover Scarlett & Jo?
When I was in Eastenders and going to awards etc, I always found it difficult to find clothes that I enjoyed wearing and were comfortable. I would say I am not really a dressy up kind of woman and because of my size throughout my life I have never really found things that were fashionable, or that I even liked but bought them cos they fitted!
But then I guess in those days as long as a Millets tent was big enough that would have done!! But S&J were always very kind, generous and supportive and gave me choice, fashion and confidence in what made me look and feel great.
What stood out to you when you first browsed the collection?
I liked the formal wear and shapes, now I love the colours and especially my favs are the kimono trouser sets and love them. I would love more of those made in lots and lots of different patterns!
Do you feel the brand understands and embraces body diversity in its design and sizing?
Yes, it does, you know what you’re getting, and the sizes are consistent. The quality is amazing and just makes you feel a million dollars.
What does it mean to you to see plus-size bodies celebrated in fashion—not just included?
Celebrating all people and representing everyone makes S&J stand out! You don’t pay lip service; you let the public speak and review the brand and they will tell you it straight. You listen and get it right!
What would you tell someone who’s struggling to feel confident in their body or their clothing?
I would say talk and communicate with others who may be feeling the same, seek the services that are there and to build your confidence using the help of others. Also, I think it is a responsibility for brands and designers to ensure body positivity. Would you recommend this brand to others, and if so, why? I always do…if you are looking for style, comfort and something to wear to feel special in S&J are there for you. It’s not just a brand; it's a hug and some love in material form!
What do you hope to see more of in the future from the fashion industry as a whole? Accessibility for all, affordability for all, quality for all and body positivity for all.
